How to Write a Beautiful Love Letter
Why Write a Love Letter?
Before we get to our guide to writing your wedding day love letter, let’s take a moment to think about why you should consider writing one in the first place. After all, aren’t there already enough things on your to-do list? It’s true that you’ll have a lot on your plate leading up to your wedding day, but here are the reasons we think taking the time to write a letter to your fiancé is absolutely worth it!
To Emotionally Center Yourself
After months of planning for day that is all about the two of you, you probably will spend the first half of it completely apart from each other! It can be hard to be emotionally present in the moment when the one you most want to spend it with is out of arm’s reach. That’s why exchanging letters with your partner is a great way for you both to take a moment remember what this is all about. Many times we see brides and grooms are a little bit nervous and anxious as they are getting ready, but when step away from the madness to read their love letter we see a sense of calm and purpose come over them. Sometimes, it’s reading these special words that makes it all real to them.
It Makes a Great Memento
These are the heirlooms that family histories are built on. You have probably received and saved or even lost many love notes over the course of your relationship, but this is one that will always have a special place in your heart. Imagine reading it again on your 10th, 20th, or 50th anniversary and sharing it with your kids and grandkids as a piece of the legacy of love you’re leaving for them.
The Act of Writing it Prepares You
There are few things that offer more clarity than putting pen to paper. So, writing out your story, your reasons for loving this person, and all of your hopes for marriage will help put you in the right frame of mind and could even alleviate any last minute jitters you may be feeling in the days leading up to your wedding!
To Capture Your Story
This is your chance to tell your own story in your own words and remember exactly how you felt on your wedding day. If you’re not planning to exchange personal vows, this may be the only chance for us to capture you telling your partner how you feel about them in your own deeply personal words. Not everyone opts to read their letter aloud, but if you do it’s always a great moment. We always have our couples read it silently to themselves before reading it aloud, and a lot of times they get way more emotional the second time through! We love happy tears.
When Should I Write My Letter?
We usually recommend that you write the letter in advance, maybe the day or even week before your wedding. The day is going to fly by and you may not have the time to write a letter if you wait until the day-of. It also might be hard to deliver your letters to each other on time. So, in our experience it’s usually best to exchange your letters the evening before or the morning of your wedding and have it with you before your video & photo teams arrive. That way everything is in place and you have one less thing to think about.
